Setup the MakeITEasy connection icon on your computer.

Computer and connected to the internet.

  1. Click Start, Control Panel
  2. Click the link 'Switch to classic view', (if not already selected) in the top left of the window.
  3. Double click the Network Connections icon.
  4. Click on Create a new connection (XP home) , top left of screen Or click the New connection wizard icon (XP Pro)
  5. The 'dial-up wizard' may start, if so type 020 into the local area code and click OK and OK.
  6. The 'new connection wizard' should now start, click Next to continue.
  7. Choose 'Connect to the network at my workplace' (Option 2) and click Next.
  8. Choose 'Virtual Private Network connection' (Option 2) and click Next.
  9. Type MakeITEasy in the 'Company Name' field and click Next.
  10. For the option 'Do not dial an this initial connection' and click Next.
  11. In the 'Host name or IP address' field, enter the server that you were given in the confirmation email and click Next.
  12. Place a tick in the box next to 'Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop' and click Finish.
  13. Click No to close the window.
  14. Right-click on the 'MakeITEasy' icon in the Network Connections window and choose 'Properties'.
  15. Select the Options tab
  16. Untick the option marked "Include Windows logon domain"
  17. Activate the Networking tab and click on the Settings button.
  18. Make sure all options are unticked, then confirm the dialog with 'OK'.
  19. Activate the Security tab ensure the setting "Require data encryption (disconnect if none) is ticked"
  20. Now confirm the 'Properties' window with OK.

Connect to MakeITEasy for the first time

  1. Double click the icon on the desktop called MakeITEasy.
  2. Place a tick in the box next to 'Don't display this reminder again' and click Yes.
  3. On the 'Connect MakeITEasy' window, Type in the username and password as specified in the confirmation email that you received.
  4. Click the box next to 'save this username and password for the following people'.
  5. Click Connect, after which you will be connected to MakeITEasy support service.

Enable Remote Desktop in Windows XP

  1. Click on Start, Control Panel, System, Remote. Then make sure the lower check box is ticked.  Allow users to connect remotely to this computer.
  2. Click on Start, Control Panel, Windows Firewall. Then make sure the radio button is On and the don't allow exceptions is unchecked.
  3. Click on the exceptions tab and Remote Desktop should be listed.
